ANDREI RAZIN

A graduate of the Moscow Conservatory, composer, pianist and arranger, Laureate of the National Festival "Art of the Young", Laureate of the National Competition of Young Composers, Member of the Russian Union of Composers, Andrei Razin was destined for the career of an academic musician, but his creative interests have a much wider range.

He produced music scores for the theatrical performances, modern chamber instrumental and vocal music, jazz compositions, music for TV shows and advertisement videos, symphonic music. Razin participated in Russo-French Festival of Modern Improvisational Music, and numerous other festivals, performed with Arkady Shilkloper, Mike Ellis, Vladimir Chekasin, etc.
Andrei Razin was also awarded the "Composer of the year" (2002) awards by Russian Jazz Journalists Association.
The Second Approach is a jazz/improv/crossover trio, based in Moscow, Russia. The Second Approach consists of a classically-trained composer and improvising pianist, (Andrei Razin,) an improvising Gypsy singer (Tatiana Komova) and a jazz bass player (Igor Ivanushkin). The Second Approach plays original music written by Andrei Razin. They are not straight-ahead jazz, but they are jazz, nevertheless, definitely unique and really strong in terms of composition/improvisation and overall level of their musicianship. Over the course of their decade-long career as a group, the trio performed at jazz festivals in Norway, Germany, Poland, Finland, Israel, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Russia and other countries, and in June, 2009, they are up to their first U.S. visit. Since 1999, The Second Approach released five albums in Russia and one on German-based NRW label. Their newest album, due out this May, is recorded in Moscow, guest-starring the great Roswell Rudd on the trombone. Another recording, featuring German free jazz drummer Klaus Kugel, is on the way.

My Two Jazz Teachers Just Joined The Network!

Hello JMS Members,

I'm so excited today. Two of my most influential jazz musical mentors, Robert "Doc" Morgan and Marvin "Prof" Sparks has joined the network. I'm so proud to have had both of these gentlemen as major influences in my musical, personal, and business development. I'm just showing off. Excuse me for being excited.

Peace & Keep Swinging!
